Our General Manager, Belinda Thomson, and some of the Executive Team and William Inglis team members joined Liverpool City Council’s Weekly Bushland Volunteering program — and it’s a commitment we’re proud to sustain well into the future.
On 2 June 2026, the team headed to Chipping Norton to spend a morning in the field, removing invasive weed species along the Georges River corridor as part of Liverpool City Council’s Biodiversity Management Plan.
It was hands-on, grounding work — and entirely intentional. For The William Inglis, participation in programs like this is not a one-time gesture. We see environmental stewardship as an ongoing responsibility: something to show up for consistently, not just mark on a calendar once a year.
Why Biodiversity Matters
Local government is increasingly called upon — by communities and by law — to take a greater role in protecting and enhancing the natural environment. Liverpool City Council’s Biodiversity Management Plan reflects this, aiming to ensure that local ecosystems, species, and genes survive in their natural habitat so they can continue to provide lasting environmental benefits.
“When local ecosystems flourish, so do the benefits they provide: cleaner waterways, healthier wildlife habitats, and a more resilient natural environment for our entire region.”
Invasive weeds are one of the biggest threats to native biodiversity. They crowd out indigenous plants, disrupt the food and shelter that native animals depend on, and degrade waterway health over time. Weed removal — done consistently and in coordination with land managers — gives native vegetation the space to regenerate naturally.
Our Ongoing Commitment
At The William Inglis, we believe that being a great place to stay, meet, and celebrate also means being a great neighbour. The Georges River corridor is part of the landscape our guests and our community share, and investing in its health is an investment in the region we call home.
We will continue to participate in the Liverpool City Council volunteering program across the coming months, and we encourage other local businesses and community members to join us.
